EECV is being transported to a new digital platform

Ertsoverslagbedrijf Europoort C.V. (EECV) is improving its operational processes by migrating to SAP S/4HANA. It will benefit from the latest embedded analytics, AI and SAP tools to transform its operations.

EECV is the largest and one of the most modern transhipment companies of bulk cargo in Europe. Based on a 100 hectare site in the Europoort area of Rotterdam, its cargo comes from all over the world, transhipping 24 million tons of iron ore and coal for iron and steel preparation each year.

Needing to transform its operational processes over the next 5 years, EECV wanted more leverage within its current SAP system. Its long-term aim is to modernise its SAP landscape and has decided that a migration to SAP S/4HANA will help centralise its Plant Maintenance operations to support its 50 office workers and 250 maintenance workers.

In 2020, EECV took advantage of an SAP S/4HANA assessment to gain a valuable insight of what impact a migration would have on its business. Workshops with technical and functional assessments helped identify and prioritise operational processes and gave EECV a clear business case that moving to SAP S/4HANA would not only benefit the company but would be simple to carry out.

Migrating to SAP S/4HANA will give EECV access to the latest SAP technologies, including the powerful asset management tool, Ready4 Advanced Scheduling. This is an important feature as it will allow EECV to simplify its plant maintenance scheduling with its easy to use graphical user interface and dashboard. Improved analytics, operational and tactical reporting and real-time data will give its business and field-users direct access to the ERP and a centralised view of operations. Additionally, with EECV employees working a high number of continuous shifts, Ready4 Advanced Scheduling will support work scheduling and human resource planning to ensure smooth business execution including the unloading of seagoing vessels and loading of raw materials in barges and trains.

Hans-Peter Bakker, Senior Manager Finance and Purchasing, EECV explains, “We need to guarantee an efficient and continuous transhipment of ores and coals 24 hours a day.  Smart maintenance based on pre-planned preventive and corrective work packages is crucial in order to achieve maximum technical availability. The best practice maintenance methodology that SAP S/4HANA will offer us is crucial to support this process administratively.

In addition, with the reporting suite of embedded analytics, we can monitor whether the processes that are crucial to us, such as purchasing, warehouse management and maintenance, are running as desired or make timely adjustments if necessary.”

Ramon Boekel, Business Manager NL, SOA People highlights, ”We are delighted that EECV has put its trust in SOA People over the next five years to help upgrade its technology and to support its long-term strategy. EECV will benefit from our secure hosting and have a scalable solution which can grow with its business. We are confident that SAP S/4HANA will allow EECV to simplify its IT environment and will reap the benefits of faster analytics capabilities to help future-proof the business.”
