What does this mean for the customer to go to the Intelligent Enterprise?
There are many routes to becoming an intelligent enterprise. But at SOA People we are typically experiencing two main trends:
ERP route: At the heart of most mid-sized customer organisations is the ERP landscape. Customers who’ve been on SAP ECC for years are now looking to migrate to SAP S/4HANA to maximise new technology innovations as a way to improve their business processes. They will probably also be looking to SAP BTP for integration, extensions and to create optimal value from their SAP and non-SAP data assets.
Of course, when SAP ECC was first around it was the very latest technology, and organisations who implemented it were deemed to be ‘ahead of the curve’. Fast forward 20 years, implementing SAP S/4HANA is not simply about staying ahead of the game but simply about keeping up with the faster-than-ever pace of technological advancement. SAP S/4HANA running on HANA gives you best practice and embedded intelligent technologies like machine learning, AI and RPA.
SAP BTP route: Customers that are looking to implement processes that are unique to their business into SAP standardised solutions are deploying SAP Business Technology Platform. BTP provides a single cloud or hybrid platform to build, manage and deploy apps, and gives you extension capabilities for SAP and third-party data and apps. This technology platform supports a broad range of business use cases, but the most common ones we see are related to extending SAP S/4HANA (or ECC 6.0) with more web-based (SAP Fiori) apps, portals for vendors and customers, integration with SAP and non-SAP systems and advanced analytics.
Timing and planning are key
Ultimately most customers will be adopting a combination of these technologies, migrating to SAP S/4HANA for their intelligent ERP and to SAP BTP to gain real time access on one platform for their data assets across multiple sources.
